The Historic Preservation Education Grant (HPEG) program is jointly sponsored by the Indiana Humanities Council and the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana.

Interpretation of the Chief Jean Baptiste de Richardville House, an important Miami Indian landmark in northeast Indiana, will be supported by this grant. The historical society will also sponsor a "Focus Weekends" Series on topics related to the home and to Miami history and culture.

Students from Franklin College will contribute their talents to produce a book on the Artcraft Theatre, an 80-year-old mainstay of Franklin's downtown district.

An interdisciplinary teaching unit focused on historic landmarks in Greenfield, Indiana, will be developed for 3rd grade students. Teachers will be invited to participate in a workshop to learn how best to use the unit in their classrooms.

Comprised of the central business district and the surrounding residential area, the North Manchester Historic District is locally known as the town's "Victorian Village." This grant will be used to create and print an illustrated tour guide to the district.

A website and PowerPoint presentation will be developed to help disseminate a six-week architecture component of the 8th grade honors course taught at Martinsville West Middle School. Among other learning activities, the students illustrated signs to designate the town's three historic districts.

Print and electronic resources--a walking tour brochure, public presentation, website, and addendum to the design guidelines--will encourage understanding of responsible rehabilitation for the historic residential and commercial architecture on East 10th Street between College and Emerson avenues in Indianapolis.

Built in 1864, Beck's Mill is the only surviving gristmill in Washington County. The picturesque landmark is on the state's 10 most endangered list. The project director will develop a brochure detailing the history of the mill, make presentations to civic organizations, and incorporate the story into the school district's curriculum.

A written curriculum and DVD for a course on local history will be compiled with the help of grant funds. Local historian Jeff Lane and high school communications teacher Trevor Apple, together with Mr. Apple's class, will work on the project.

Terre Haute's self-guided architectural downtown heritage tour brochure, entitled "Walking Wabash," will be updated and revised. Additional landmarks will be included, and the design of the brochure will be enhanced.

The small town of Vernon, Indiana, can lay claim to many historical distinctions. The first railroad in Indiana went from Madison to Vernon, and it was the turning back point of Morgan's Raid. Vernon's early nineteenth-century architecture is also notable, and Ball State University's Department of Architecture will help to create a walking tour map for the town.
