The Food For Thought traveling exhibit continues its road trip across the state when it makes a stop at the Knox County Public Library July 18 – August 3.
Stop by the exhibit (see hours below) to learn about Hoosier food through the engaging displays, and take part in an array of original and unique programming that focuses on home cooking, home brews, and hometown Hoosier hospitality.
Events and displays will be held mainly at the Knox County Public Library with a few events taking place at the Knox County Public Library Fortnightly Building (421 N. 6th St., Vincennes) and the 4-H Fair.
On July 20 (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.), Digging Up the Dirt in Knox County: A History of Agriculture Abundance will take place at the Knox County Public Library. Angela Lucas, Program Developer for the Vincennes State Historic Sites, will present on the rich history of agriculture in Knox County. The presentation will also be on display at the Knox County Public Library booth at the 4-H Fair on July 21 and the Vincennes Farmer’s Market on Saturday, July 30. This project received an Indiana Humanities grant.
On July 27 (10:30 a.m.), the Knox County Public Library Youth Department has planned an interactive program for Food For Thought that will focus on Mexican cuisine. The Youth Department staff of Amy Blake and Diana Martin will assist kids in making tasty traditional Mexican dishes.
On July 31 (3 p.m.), de Vincennes Iron Chef Fiasco, a spoof of the popular TV show will be performed at the Knox County Public Library Fortnightly Building (421 N. 6th St., Vincennes). The winner of the Church Basement Lady contest will also be announced. All churches in the county were able to nominate their “basement ladies” for bragging rights and prizes. Refreshments will be provided by local bakers who will be competing in a Cupcake War where the audience chooses the winner.
On Aug. 2 amateur home brewers Steve Smith and Chris Coffey will give an overview of the art of beer making and the history of brewing in Knox County.
Regular business hours for the exhibit are Monday – Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Thursday – Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday 1 – 5 p.m.
