Come young, come old, come hungry and leave cold! There will be plenty of raffles and contests at the Food For Thought exhibit at the Indiana State Fair that will fill your pockets to the brim with goodies of all sorts. From Heartland Steaks to a Frigidaire freezer there will be plenty of prizes to go around for all those that visit the exhibit.

In conjunction with Indiana’s Family of Farmers there will be a daily giveaway of a succulent Heartland Steak that will feed even the hungriest of fair goers. The popular “recipe trail” is also returning to the fair and the Food For Thought exhibit will once again be the hub. Those that complete the “recipe trail” will receive a prize. For every person that completes the recipe trail a pound of food will be donated to food banks across Indiana.

Kids who visit the exhibit will also have a chance to create a “Super Kids, Super Welcome” card. The goal is to have a welcome card designed by Hoosier kids in all 18,000 hotel rooms that will be used for the upcoming Super Bowl.

Rounding out the festivities at the exhibit will be the “Chew on This Wheel.” Step on up, spin the wheel and read a food-related question that is sure to make you think!

Sound like fun? Food For Thought is seeking volunteers to ensure that all these great events run smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for a 3-hour shift, complete with a free ticket to the fair, contact Alex Miser at amiser@indianahumanities.org.

In addition to the exhibit, Indiana Humanities will also host its IndyTalks event on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the fair during Hoosier History Day. The collaborative IndyTalks program is tackling the theme of “Indy as a Super City.” Indiana Humanities will ask State Fair-goers to participate by asking the question: “Why does Indianapolis need Indiana?” Indiana Humanities is providing an interactive space, both online and at the State Fair, to get the discussion started!
