Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site
Indiana’s Favorite Sons, Mar. 16-Nov. 10, 2012

This exhibit focuses on Indiana Presidential and Vice-presidential candidates through the years. Some Indiana "Hopefuls" are explored that did not quite make it to being a candidate. One of the earliest Vice-presidential candidates on the Free Democrat ticket under John P. Hale was George Julian who ran in 1852. Eugene V. Debs of Terre Haute was nominated five times for president, representing the Socialist Party between 1904 and 1920. Wendell Willkie was nominated as the Republican Party candidate for president in 1940. These are just a few of Indiana’s Favorite Sons.

Indiana’s Favorite Sons is part of regular tours through Nov. 10, 2012. The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am–3:30 pm, with tours every hour and half hour, with the last tour beginning at 3:30 pm. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $3 for students (ages 5-17). Please call (317) 631-1888 for more information.

Conner Prairie

At 1863 Civil War Journey: Raid on Indiana, see if you think it’s fair to pay someone to serve in your place instead of being drafted. Buying & Bartering activities occur daily and are included in the price of general admission.

Admission is $14/adults, $13/seniors 65+, $9/youth (ages 2-12), free for members and youth under 2. For more information, call (317) 776-6006 or (800) 966-1836 or visit www.connerprairie.org.

Science on the Edge: Radical Innovation in New Harmony

March 24 – Oct. 28, 2012

They explored new lands, discovered fantastic new animals and recorded a changing Native American way of life. The pioneers of New Harmony were more than just scientists – they were voyagers uncovering the secrets of a newly-born country. Science on the Edge looks at this part of American history through an Indiana lens, when the United States was still young and unexplored frontier stretched west to the ocean.
