In Central Indiana, almost one in five adults struggle with reading and can not read a newspaper or fill out most job applications. One organization, Indy Reads, is striving to eliminate illiteracy and is on track to work with almost 1,200 adult students this year.

But, the organization has more than 30 students on thewaiting list right now who need a volunteer tutor.

What better way to celebrate your love of reading than to encourage your friends to become more involved with Indy Reads (or a similar, local organization in your hometown)?

To celebrate, post the following short message below (and then tweet/update your status, etc.):

Celebrating Literacy Day with Indy Reads. The next book I’m reading is_________ Help other adults learn to read @indyreads.org

That’s it! Just fill in the blank with the title of the next book you are planning on reading, and then copy the message into your favorite device and send to everyone you know! And to get it started, here is mine:

Kristen Fuhs Wells: Celebrating Literacy Day with Indy Reads. The next book I’m reading is “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”  Help other adults learn to read @indyreads.org
